This year, on #WorldSuicidePreventionDay on September 10th we will be attending the London Middlesex Suicide Prevention Council’s Lifting the Silence event in Victoria Park, in London Ontario. We believe that it is important to show our community members that They Are Not Alone and there are various resources out there.
As an LGBT2Q+ group, we know that our members and community are more at risk of mental health problems, addictions and suicidal thoughts then their peers. LGB youth are four times more likely to attempt suicide then their peers.
We believe that as a group, it is important for us to show up to events outside of the normal Pride Celebrations to show that we are LGBT2Q+ 365 days a year and we are affected by many issues. We also tend to talk to those that are too scared to be “outed” at a Pride event and that makes all the difference.
During the event we will also be hosting a free raffle for a Self-Care kit consisting of a 2018/19 agenda, colouring book, premium markers, #SickNotWeak shirt and fidget spinner.
In the coming months we will be opening up the organization to two levels of membership: Basic; and Supporting Member.
We have a variety of ways that you can get involved. We are currently looking for volunteers to serve on our board, outreach and research teams.
Is your company interested in helping us accomplish our goals? A sponsorship package will be released in August.
